The Search box on the very top of the page pertains to our site, not to Ning in general. You can use it to search our whole site for any term of interst to you, to find out what is being said, e.g. 'music', 'shamanism', 'insurance'.

Look to the RH side of the screen to see who else is online now. If someone else is there, you can click on his/her picture to start a private chat.

If you want to look at Mandalas in a very nice framework select the VIEW SLIDESHOW option, for example when viewing the all the mandalas from a person. As the slideshow runs a click on a picture brings up its title and description and a link to open it full-sized in a separate window.
To go even further, you can use the code on the upper right corner of the slide show to get a piece of html code that you can insert on any other site so that visitors on that site can watch the slide show without leaving the site. Way cool.

MANDALAS

If you see a mandala that you like in The Mandala Gallery, just click on it. This will take you to a page where you can find out the artist's name. The artist might also have given the mandala a title, or written some commentary about the session that inspired it.

You can also leave a comment under a mandala, so it is possible to have a discussion with the artist and with others about each particular one.

STAY INFORMED OF GROUP ACTIVITY

If you are a member of a group, you can set this up so that you get an email when there are any new posts.

Just make sure that you have clicked 'Follow'. Note that this can be a bit confusing, because if you have selected Follow, the link changes to 'Stop following', which you can then click if you change your mind.

STAYING INFORMED (RSS)

If you want to be sent, automatically, any new entries in a particular blog or discussion, use the RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feature. It's not hard to set up. Here are the most important instructions:

Distilled from NING Help pages:

What can I do with RSS feeds?

RSS feeds are a way of delivering rapidly changing content on your site. Adding an RSS feed of content from your social network to your external website is a great way to promote content or activity from your social network on your website. On public networks, all types of content generate RSS feeds, so you can add an RSS feed for the latest photos, videos, events, or forum discussions to your external website. You can even add the RSS feed for latest activity on your network. You can also pull in external RSS feeds and add them to your network's main page, your group's main page, or your profile page.

Feeds are a simple way to stay updated on information you care about. Most websites offer them in one of two kinds: RSS (which stands for "Really Simple Syndication") or Atom. To find a site's feed, you'll usually want to look for a little orange icon or an RSS label.

You can paste the feed's URL into a feed-reader application, like Google Reader, Bloglines or NewsGator, or use the feed reading feature built into a page like iGoogle, My Yahoo!, or Netvibes, and you'll always know when your favorite site is updated. You can also use RSS feeds to get information from dozens of sources from within your feed reader.

Adding your network's RSS feed to an external website - or even to another network on Ning! - is incredibly easy. Just locate the type of content you'd like to follow. The forum is a great place to start. To get the RSS feed of latest discussions and replies in the forum, head to the Forum tab. Scroll to the bottom of the page and fine the "RSS" icon and link.

Copy the URL of this link. You can get even more specific and follow only discussions in a particular category or even only discussions with a particular tag if you'd like.

Next, go to your external website or feedreader of choice. A good place to start is iGoogle, which is easy to configure and comes with a bunch of default feeds that will give you an idea of what you can use RSS for. To add a feed to your iGoogle, click the "Add stuff" link at the top right of the page. Next, at the bottom of the left column, click the "Add feed or gadget" next to the RSS icon.

Paste in the URL of the RSS feed you copied from your network and click the "Add" button. Once your feed has successfully been added, click the "Back to iGoogle home" link at the top left of the page. Your new feed will appear in the top left corner of the page.

FIND PEOPLE IN YOUR AREA

You can use the search box on the upper right to find people who live in your area. This function will search the whole site for any references to the locale you specify, but most of the results will be the profiles of individuals. (We don't have standarized language every locale, so be creative with what you try, e.g. try NY and N.Y. and New York.)

You can send anyone a message through this site, or leave a comment on their profile page.

You could also search the site for people who share interests with you, such as photography, knitting, astrology.
